Pine Wood Furniture Is Most Elegant

The pines may be the most abundant species in the world. Using pine wood furniture is environmentally sustainable as it does not terrorize the extinction of the pine trees. Some manufacturers tag themselves "Carbon Neutral" as they help maintain and support plantations of trees that assist in absorbing the gases that deplete ozone.

The pines are widespread in the northern hemisphere as well as the tropical regions just over the equator. However, some pines can be found near the border of the southern hemisphere, particularly in Sumatra. Today, the pines have become an enveloping species in the southern hemisphere after huge plantations are done in the region of Latin America, Africa and across the equator to New Zealand and mainland Australia.

A pine tree can reach a height of 80 meters and could survive for thousands of years. The oldest identified standing pine is the Pinus longaeva, also called the Great Basin Bristlecone Pine, present in Utah and eastern California. Scientists believe that one of these trees, code-named "Methuselah", is most likely 4700 years old and perhaps the longest living thing on the planet today.

Solid pine is in high demand because it can be brought into use for a wide variety of furniture designs. It could be put in a wide variety of shapes and engraved because of its fine and soft grain.

To avoid splitting and warping, which is a usual tendency of pinewood when exposed to harsh temperature changes, the pinewood requires kiln drying. Its soft character makes it even more exposed to scratches. That is the reason why pinewood products are waxed or varnish coated to guard its fragile surface.

Texture, grain as well as color of pinewood are extremely varied. It is not viable to search for an accurate match of wood color and pattern even if they are taken from two trees that grew together. The color of the wood turns deeper as the tree grows older.

Design and Utility of the Pine Furniture

In general, headboards, beds, dress cabinets, kitchen cabinets, drawers, dining tables, open shelves, chairs, office desks, and other common use cabinets as well as shelves are made from Pinewood.

Maintenance of Pine furniture

The surface of solid pine furniture does not require elaborate care like Hardwood. For treating unpainted or waxed furniture do not use solvents, as these may damage the structure of solid wood. Use a damp cloth, oil or wax for the maintenance of pine furniture. Light pollution is to eliminate oil from wood, and other stronger pollution can prove to be special cleaners for pine wood. Make sure that the wood is dry before any processing and treatment. All these cleaning products are easily available in furniture stores or online.

Pine is very soft compared to other woods used in furniture. What an advantage for producers, the processing is easier and cheaper than hardwood pine furniture makes it vulnerable to scratches. The softness, however, leads to superficial scratches or patchy areas that can be sanded off in the wood slightly.
